Kittens Video Information:
BREAKING MEWS: Aura the cleft palate kitten has just successfully eaten her first kibble.
Tune in LIVE: TinyKittens.com/live
We are very excited because this means we might be able to slowly transition her away from the round-the-clock tube feedings!! Why kibble and not canned food or softened kibble? Because it reduces the risk of her aspirating food into her lungs through the hole in her palate. We are working with a specialist to ensure we are making the best decisions possible.
We didn’t know if she would be able to eat without the tube, without getting food into her nasal passages putting her at risk for aspiration pneumonia. We also didn’t know if the muscles used for swallowing were developed/developing properly. It’s still too early to say for sure, but she ate and swallowed one glorious kibble, and that is worthy of a giant YIPEEEE!!!
